Cali Reed-Whalen
Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner
After struggling with my own health for as long as I can remember and hearing that all my lab work was ‘normal’ by yet another new doctor, I realized I had to take my health into my own hands if I wanted anything to truly change. On the outside I appeared healthy, but on the inside I was always bloated, irritable, and severely lacking energy. As a practicing zero waste vegan, I felt like I should feel better than I did, but I kept believing my doctors when they told me nothing was wrong — I would regularly think to myself, “maybe it’s all in my head and I’m just being a hypochondriac.” But still, something deep down felt off and I couldn’t let it go.
I’ve always been interested in the health and wellness space, especially as I worked through college at The Health Bar in Honolulu, HI. As I was approaching graduation from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Environmental Policy, I became curious about health coaching, nearly enrolling in a program but ultimately shying away at the investment required, especially as I was about to embark on the student loan repayment journey. The idea percolated in the back of my mind for many years, until one day I stumbled upon the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition program. I had been at a career crossroad for a few years, not finding fulfillment in the sustainability sector. The thing that stood out to me about the FDN program was that it focuses on health transformation through bio-individual data, collected through the foundational diagnostic labs carefully chosen by the program’s medical director. “Test, don’t guess” was the motto. After digging into the course outline and pouring through the resources and testimonials, I was hooked — I enrolled as soon as I could and the jumped right in.
To say that the FDN program has been life-changing would be an understatement; it completely changed the trajectory of my life and I couldn’t be more grateful for what it brought me. I immediately knew this was something I wanted to share with others upon graduating, which ultimately led to the creation of Onus Metabolic Health.
You are the only person who can take control of your health — the onus is on you. I’m here to empower you to make the RIGHT choices for your own individual biology and help hold you accountable for sticking with it when the going [inevitably] gets rough. My promise to you is that I will continue to be a student to keep learning, as well as be a steward of my own teachings. I look forward to working together one day!
