FAQ: Why do I need to supplement?
A: Support, stimulate, substitute, self-treat.
Due to the current state of farming in the US, the food that we consume is less nutritious calorie-for-calorie than it has been in decades prior because there are less nutrients in the soil (due to extractive, rather than regenerative, farming practices that deplete the soil season after season). Our water sources have also changed and are now heavily filtered and treated, which results in less mineral uptake in our day-to-day life. In addition to the changes to our food and water, we are exposed to a more significant amount of new toxins than ever before in human history, which places a heavier burden on our bodies, including the liver and digestion. You could be eating the most healthful, organic, nutrient-dense diet but still require supplementation if your digestive system is compromised and you’re unable to absorb nutrients as well as you’re designed to due to being impacted by issues such as chronic stress, leaky gut, pathogens, low stomach acid, etc.,
With the onslaught of increasing toxins and environmental burdens comes the need to support our bodies in ways that provide ancillary resources so that we can continue to thrive as humans. Supplementation can come in many different forms, such as vitamins, minerals, supportive herbs, macronutrients (protein specifically), micronutrients, etc. based on what you’re missing and how you might prefer to take them (liquid, capsule, powder, etc.).
Supplementation is NOT meant to be a substitute for whole foods but can be in certain situations (such as a vegan taking vitamin B12); it is meant to be complementary to an existing healthy lifestyle and to fill any shortcomings that are identified through running diagnostic testing. It is also meant to be supportive to the healing process on a bio-individual level.
Supplementation needs change over time as you age, undergo major lifestyle changes, experience new health issues, etc.
If you choose to adopt a recommended supplementation protocol, you should be ready to fully commit and be consistent while acknowledging that you may need to make adjustments based on how your body reacts to each new introduction.
